NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior midfielder Lauren Taylor (Manhasset, N.Y.) was named second team IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Wednesday afternoon, the third time in her career she has been so honored. She is Yale's only three-time IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America honoree in the 11 years of available records, having earned a third team selection in 2005 and a first team selection in 2007.
Taylor, who was on the watch list for the Tewaaraton Trophy as national player of the year, was selected for the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America team after initially earning IWLCA All-Region recognition for the Northeast region on May 22 -- her fourth All-Region selection. She also was a first team All-Ivy League selection for the fourth straight year, becoming the fourth player in league history to accomplish that feat. She won the Barbara Bowditch Award as Yale's team MVP for the second straight time, leading the Bulldogs with 41 goals and 59 points. This was the fourth straight season she has led Yale in both of those categories.
Taylor finished her career with 198 goals and 246 points, placing second to Tracy Ball '81 on Yale's all-time lists in both categories. At Commencement this past weekend she received the Nellie Elliot Award as the top senior female student-athlete at Yale.
Taylor, who was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second time this year, is a history of science/history of medicine major in Silliman College. She is part of a unique five-year academic program at Yale. After getting her B.A. this year she will receive a Masters degree in public health next year. Prior to Yale she attended Manhasset High School.
The IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America team consists of 16 first-team members, 16 second-team members and 16 third-team members. A total of 128 student-athletes were eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America team after initially being honored with All-Regional selection by the IWLCA.
The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 14 in King of Prussia, Pa.
