OMAHA, Neb. - Alex Righi just missed the cut for the 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha Wednesday. After qualifying for the semi-finals in the event with an eighth place finish in the morning session, Righi finished in ninth to miss the cut by one in the evening session.

Righi qualified for the evening session with an eighth place finish in a time of 48.80 in the morning session. In the evening session, Righi came up short of producing the same necessary eighth place results to qualify for the finals Thursday. Righi tied for ninth place with a time of 48.89 in the race.

Had Righi qualified for the finals by finishing in the top eight in the evening session, a top six finish would have punched his ticket to Beijing for the Olympics. Now, Righi finds himself with only one event remaining: the 50-meter freestyle. Righi will swim in the 50-meter freestyle Friday in his last attempt to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.
